Hit hennessy on Saturday,  got 5 in the boat, 4.5 if you go by size on the little guy.  Lost two getting in the net and one to deep to see the guy,  but from the fight I'd estimate a 30 lb small mouth..🤪 lol. my buddy killed it out there last weekend and it's been really picking up with worms and spinner baits in 5ft of water.  Guy from shore said he nailed one in just a couple of feet off water that was shy of 5lbs. Great lake for people on kayaks.
Went on the napa river for about two hours today and got a 24in striper trolling, pretty fish.  Gonna get him on the fryer this week,  just went out to scout around really.

My son and his friend did ok at Hennesy fishing, but scored $40+ in lures out of the tules!

Yeah I found three crankbait lures myself..lol. I'm about to go out one day just to look for them.

Well done.  Hennessey is a fun lake in a yak.  Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the report! Hennessy question for ya, do you need the Napa water permit sticker for a kayak? Or is that just boats?

Stripers have been great in the river lately! I hope to get there again soon.

Honestly I don't know! I've not been stopped or questioned about it when I see a ranger.

No permits needed at Hennessey. Just pay the fee at the launch and fish on. It's a "no water contact" lake but I've never got in trouble wading during launch. You can get a yearly boating permit from the water department on Clay Street in downtown Napa, and save some money too.

Thanks for the report. Question: what is Napa water permit and does that pertains to fishing?

Years ago when I lived in Napa there was a special thing you had to buy from the city of Napa to go on the water because it is napa’s Water supply. It looks like they have done away with that though! https://www.cityofnapa.org/580/Lake-Hennessey-Boating-Fishing

Great report!! That's a fun lake for sure.

I like the pictures, but if you want to be in any of the catch-photo-release competitions, start practicing the closed-mouth-measuring-board picture. It sounds funny, but there is technique to that so they don't flop off or open the mouth...

Haha,  funny that's exactly why I started doing it.  Wanted to get used to doing it.  What's the technique to get them closed mouth and from flipping around?

this is how I do it.
YMMV
Pinch the mouth closed while fish is on the board, use both hands to gently keep fish calm with closed mouth, then grab camera with non-dominate hand and snap pic with dominate hand still holding fish.  practice in shallow water or use leash for a while, lots and lots of cameras and phones get lost...

And for some tournaments its fish belly towards you with mouth facing to the left for points.

for more precise instruction, ask ATD or BMB ;)
