This might be a stupid question but can the Okuma SST (medium 8'6") be used for jetties? Planning to just use it to throw out some swimbaits. Line Weight: 8-17 lbs. Lure Weight: 1/4-5/8 oz. I figure if it can handle a salmon it can handle some rockfish?

I personally use something verry stiff to pull the fish outta the rocks, but if you are comfortable with that rod it might be exactly what you should be using...if that makes sense  :smt044 ... I use my steelhead rod for surf perch - salmon

Ah, I didn't factor that part in. I might go with the MH or just get a different rod. I just like carrying something light for the jetties and I like the length.

aren't the salmon/steelhead models pretty stiff?  The one i own is and I feel it has plenty of power. Its worth a shot.

Ive used a sst for crab snares and pulled in keepers with it no problem so they have plenty of strength/power

I use one off a jetty. Its a kick.Don`t over tighten the drag. If the fish wants to run let it run , dont be Magilla Gorilla and put the kung fu grip on your rod and muscle that fish in . You`ll snap the rod or bust your line .Wait are you even old enough to remember Magilla Gorilla ?
