If you're slinging a swimbait for lings and hook into a nice rockfish, how are you guys rigging the rockfish as livebait?

Are ya just pinning the rockfish to your jig head and sending it down?  Are you swapping out/re-tying rigs?  Are you still using weights and/or are you fly lining (pinning it in dorsal or throat) to make it swim down?

I ask because someone told me he adds a slider/snap swivel to his mainline, above his main swivel.  Then, he just adds his leader and swimbait until he happens upon a nice live bait sized offering.  He then pops off his leader, adds a weight to the slider, and rigs the livebait like a fishfinder rig.  Seemed like a reasonably efficient technique.  Thoughts?

I have a separate rod already set up with a 3 way, torpedo weight and a 30# fluoro leader about 20"-24" with a sliding snelled hook (to the lips of the RF Bait)and an assisted hook to the dorsal fin area or back.
Its essentially the same set-up as I use for halibut except a shorter leader to avoid snag.

I usually have a second rod setup with a 3-way swivel, 8-10oz weight, 3ft leader with a 6/0 live bait hook and a treble hook near the dorsal fin.

same as above.  i usually go out with 2 rods.  1 for jigging.  the 2nd is rigged with a 3 way and a live bait treble + stinger.  i used to use 1 hook and use a jighead/swimbait as a weight (2 hook limit on rf) but the bait rockfish would shake free, and being just hooked to the mouth/head area, provides for low chances of hookups.  i also used to rig a carolina rig.  but that was difficult to change if needed.  i leave the rig without a weight and add it when i find a good sized rf to use.  my 2nd rod can also act as a backup jigging rod if i want to change it up or if i have a malfunction with rod #1.
