Caples Lake - ICE OUT!!!

The ice broke yesterday. I need to ring in the season with my next double digit trout.  Friday anyone? Sunday?

I'm planning to try for one of those fatty trout in late July, Brian.  What kind of rig at what depth do you run there?  How big you gettin' 'em?  Thanks for sharing.   

Power bait and redworms for numbers of fish. Gold kastmasters and silver/orange daredevils have been productive early and late in the day from the shore.

If you are yaking or boat, I have found that spooning the deep pockets can be productive in the early morning for medium size macs. Macs seem to bite better in the morning and browns in the evening. If you can, fast troll 3 -5 mph with j9 rapalas, black and gold. Hang on for the browns to hit, I have seen more than one rod broken from overtight drags. For slower trolling I like to use small crocodiles tipped with crawlers or broken back rapalas in rainbow trout patterns with the downrigger 5 feet from the bottom.

Never mind, I found it. I never been so i may try it out on the way back from reno Memorial weekend.

The wife and I might be able to make it up there on Saturday, pending some rest untill then...I really want a Mac, do you think my kokanee jigs will work for Mac's?

Come on....who want a big trout? Timing is perfect. Sunday....any takers? Meet me in Lodi and I'll drive up there hill. Leaving at 4:30 am to get there by 6:30 and on the water for a monster. Dry waders a must.
