I hear all of your comments. Its interesting to know what each individual's pros and cons are. Its an assumption that I bring a ton of gear. Lol. I actually dont. I fit ALL my gear for the day in a yogurt tub. Haha. But where does my apple and sandwich go? My beer? My waters, sunflower seeds..etc.
I guess I am so used to my huge live-bait well right in front of me that I use for everything.
I honestly don't see myself loving this thing in a year even if I used it every weekend. I'd rather someone put it to use than it sit. I honestly see myself grabbing for my Malibu 90% of the time. The only time I would use the OB would be trolling for chromies. And thats not enough for me to own it. I know its surprising to most of you that I feel this way (esp you Hobie guys) but I expected more out of it..Im flat out not impressed.

So I just bought this Outback from John, Yakhopper's buddy (the post is still viewable) about a week and a half ago.
I've been looking forward to finally finding a great deal on a pedal kayak, Outback to be exact, and finally did.
I took it out for the first time yesterday and I have to say, I'm not impressed. Other than the pedal feature, IMO, there are other kayaks out there that fit me best.
My mistake was not testing a kayak or going for a demo to find one that suits me.
I'm not knocking you folks with Outbacks because there are more of those on the water than my Malibu Stealth 12 but...its just not for me.
I paid $2000 for it. I'm not willing to take more than a $200 loss on it. $1800 and its yours.

2016 Hobie Outback

Great post— a lot of varied comments here. A lot to think about— kayaks are like people, all different.

Hey, to each his own.

After trying to fish from my trad kayak and nearly having a nervous breakdown trying to make that happen, I got into the Mirage Drive and cannot imagine anything else doing the job.

Exactly. Nice to see everybody's opinions. But also, there are other pedal driven kayaks out there now to consider..

The Hobie compass looks nice but you have to make some upgrades to it. Anyone peddle one of those in the big blue yet?
