Got out for a two'fer this weekend.
My brother in law came up from SoCal and we fished Saturday off of Davenport. Conditions were, um, interesting. Conflicting wind swell and current cancelled each other out, so even with wind to 15kt we just sat in one spot without drifting until about 10am when the current started to lay down. It was a tough scratch for fish, we managed a short 23" ling and a nice 18" cabezon among the short bites and in-the-lap wind waves.
Sunday we opted for a mellow session off of the Lighthouse point/seal rock area. Sea was calm & with only a light refeshing breath of wind. The sun came out even. After hauling in a few smallish blues & black and yellow RF, I thought I had gotten snagged on a holdfast. With only dead weight for resistance, imagine my surprise to see a nice fat 29" ling come up! The ling had an 8" blue RF in his mouth staring up at me as I removed the hook. The thing looked like something from Alien, with two faces. Anyway, a great couple of mornings on the water and some delish grilled Lingcod for supper last night.

Sounds like a good time Sean.  My first ever out in the salt on a yak was on a very short guided tour to Seal Rock...but that was what made me decide to get into the sport.

Good times.  I wish I could get my brother or brother in law on a yak.

Hey there Eugene. We launched at the super secret :smt003 west harbor non-motorized vessel dock. I think that's what its called. Turn into the harbor lot next to Aldo's then go down aways. The paddle out took about 20 minutes, but the water was glassy at 8am.

Many of us were thinking that place was fished-out of quality rockfish.

I was out there with the family walking and acting like tourist. was that you in the tandem fishing the kelpbeds!

Anyhow, way to go!

I ended up fishing for bardperch on the beach near the light house with no luck. just a bunch of exchange student asking me a lot of question.

Beautiful day

Totally surprised me. I actually thought it might have been a halibut at first the way it just hung on the line.

Nah, we were in two singles, a gray SPTW and a red T140. Off the water by 10:30am. We did see a group of free divers in the kelp right near the lane. They had free floating shooting lines about 50' long. Looked like a PITA to dive in kelp with. One asked if we'd seen any white sea bass??? Not heard of WSB up here with any regularity (tho I'd sure like to :smt003) I remember the guy in Capitola who caught  a 70+lb'er a few years ago, but that's it.
