Went to Ocean cove and Stillwater N. for a camping/diving weekend. Arrived Friday afternoon and found it very crowded. Everyone must have been trying to beat the upcoming Holiday rush and take advantage of some very low tides this weekend.
The wind was relentless, from early morning till sundown it never let up. Diving was possible in some of the coves in the early morning but for the most part it was a struggle with wind, chop and small waves. I dove Saturday for one nice AB and rock picked with my Bro-inlaw for my remaining two.
Today we got an early start and were in the water by 7am. We were the first to get to a promising cove, soon to be joined by 8 others. The wind and chop was again very nasty and since I was diving solo, I opted for the easy route and rockpicked another nice limit, incl a fat 9 incher.
We did some shore fishing on Saturday, caught a 20" underling and some Greenlings, released all....
We were never approached by any DFG Wardens but saw them busy writing tickets to others. Three guys came in on a Zodiac without their Ab cards filled out...all got cited, must be filled out immediately after boarding vessel or exiting water if diving from shore.
On the drive out this morning they had a Abalone check point set up. I was glad to be waived through even though I was all legal. They must of had thirty cars and trucks lined up to be checked. Im glad they do that though, because they continue to catch people taking advantage of the Natural Resources even with the risk of being cited or worse.
All in all it was a fun trip except for the wind. My tent needs a makeover after being subject to the 40 MPH gust all day long......later,KIMO

I think if they catch someone with an over limit they should of confiscated the vehicles they were driving.  :smt013

I'll third that thought.  Poachers are idiots, and regular old redneck gamehogs suck too.  The irony is that so many over-limiters have to work hard to give away what they don't eat - it's all an ego stroke...

Thanks for the report, Kimo.   :smt001

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.
