Help on San francisco regulation

2) April 15 through December 31: Take of all species is prohibited seaward of a line approximating the 40-fathom depth contour along the mainland coast and along islands and offshore seamounts. The 40-fathom depth contour is defined by straight lines connecting the set of 40-fathom waypoints as adopted in Federal regulations (50 CFR Part 660, Subpart G).

I pretty much can't picture this on my mind, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

just be aware that regulation is changing as of next week.

essentially, it says you cannot fish west of the 240 feet contour line.  to be safe, just fish in less than 180 feet (since that will be the new regulation)

It's waypoints.  Connect the GPS dots on a chart.  Navionics comes in really handy, the lines are plotted on the charts for you.

So basically,  don’t fish too deep (beyond 240 miles).  That should be easy.

240 miles is pretty far on a kayak.

It IS weird how they draw the countour lines.  they pick a running set of GPS points and you draw straight line from one point to the other.  Sometimes it's deeper than 240, sometimes it's shallower.  it pays to have a good visual of the boundary so you don't get busted.
