Good morning Mendo!

I woke up and the kayak was already in the truck, so I sez "Gotta fish."
I ended up in front of Barn Cove in 15' of water. Little individual busts are what drew me there. I ended up with 3 stripers, 2 of them blind casting a Zoom, and 1 on a Kastmaster thrown right into a boil that came up next to me. The Zoom rod got all tangled up in the excitement. That's why I had the Kastamster rod ready. I also hooked a very nice LM that was busting next to the bank like a striper. I thought it was a nice striper until it jumped next to me and threw the hook. I normaly don't get fazed when losing fish, I'll hook another, but this one hurt. It was a hog!
On the way in I trolled my Zoom against the bank and hooked another pair of LM.
I was using the Zoom w/ a 1/8 oz jighead with a painted eye.
I got off the water at 11 and the zoo was starting up.

Awesome...what time were the fish up.  We're going out tomorrow...Paige is going to try and solo a striper.

I'm heading up there tomorrow also. Are the shad catchable from the north ramp? Do you guys know what time the bait shop opens ... 8:00?

are you still using the small kastmasters? what does a zoom look like.

Sean- the fish were happening from 8 to 10. Good luck Paige!
Shark- I didn't see any shad at the north ramp. Don't know about bait shop hours.
PataGrande- I used a pretty big, shiny Kastmaster. Sorry, don't know what weight. Zooms are the brand name, the ones I use are called flukes. They are basicly? soft plastic minnow immitations.

Thanks Juan! Nice report. I went to a site that had a ton of different Zooms, thanks for dialing it in for me. Can't wait for Ty (Patapacito?) to get out of school. NON-zoo mid week trips.

nice to hear someone nailed em with artificials!! I tried artificials all day. I was using a fluke also, and missed a grab and broke one off on the strike. I was thinking about dropping a castmaster also. This was my first time up there, so I'm trying to get things figured out. I'm thinking, a Zara Spook for the top, fluke for mid water and castmaster for the deep. Sound like a plan? Have you had any success at vertical jigging for em? A lot of the fish were graphing around 18'-20'. Also wondering if the swimbaits would work. Thoughts?

Jonesz, that's exactly what I do, 3 rods, one topwater, one sub-surface, and the K'master for the deeper stuff, or when another rod gets tangled in the excitement.
And you CAN get them by verical jigging if you see them on the ff.
I hardly ever do bait, too lazy. When the shad are thick I like to snag them with a light rod and just pitch them out. I never touch them. That works wonders at times.
