I was talking to a few others who were looking for kayaks and mentioned that I purchased my Outback from a Kayak rental store in Tahoe at the end of the season last year.  Well, the end of season is almost upon us again so I thought I would pass along the information.

I purchased a 2016 Hobie from Andy last year for $1700 and he even delivered it to my home in Windsor (Sonoma County) for another $150.00.  It was in fantastic shape, minus one small cigarette burn mark.  I believe they purchase their boats new and sell them for 30% less at the end of the season.  They have Outbacks, Revo's and Adventure Islands.  Maybe some other boats as well.  If you're interested, give them a call.  Its a first come first serve thing.  Good luck!

I've also purchased from them before (2012 AI and a i9 inflatable).  Good guys.  Some of the demos are in better shape than others.  If you're interested in a discount AI they're generally the best prices around with the 30% off and very rarely used/rented, if they have any.  The more popular models are rented more often so they may be a bit more scratched up.

Yeah the way the deal works is to pay for it now or some sort of deposit, then pick up after the end of the season, usually the second week of Sept to beginning of Oct.

I just got an email from Andy about how it works.. here ya go!

Hey Chris,

Here is a quick run down of how our demo sales work at the end of the season. We will accept down payments to reserve boats starting on Labor Day, Monday September 4th. We open the store at 9 am, and will begin taking down payments at that time. Down payments can be made in person at the store or over the phone, that being said we will honor the customer in the store for first choice if they are here at the same time as a phone call ( i.e. if you call first thing at 9am to put a down payment on an Outback but someone is here at the store waiting for that same boat at 9am the boat will go to the customer who is here in person). 25% of the cost of the boat is due for the down payment and is non-refundable. Once you have put a down payment on the boat, the boat is yours at the end of the season. Demo boats will be available to pick up, once the remainder of the cost is payed, starting on September 25th. All boats will need to be picked up by mid October at the latest. If you would like to share this information on your forum you are more than welcome to. Please keep in mind we only have one demo boat of each model that we sell in the store.

Thanks,
Tahoe City Kayak and Paddleboard
