My (about) 10 yr old olympus waterproof/shockproof camera just crashed and I'm thinking I need a new one.

So what are people using and liking these days in a waterproof "tough" single shot still camera?

Looked at allot online but they all have pluses and minuses and varying reviews.

Not looking to go high end, so the ones out there at $400+ are out.

Thought about the Go Pro but just not into another tech item to learn to make personally useful.

Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

I have a canon D20 but the newer model is a D30.  I fried my first one when I was diving to deep and ended up switching to a go pro.   It works great on a kayak but not as much for diving.  Get the floating attachment cord on whatever you decide so it doesn't sink if dropped in the water.

Mine was a 770sw and was supposed to be waterproof to 30 ft, 8 days after it went out of warranty I took it down to about 12 ft on an ab dive and it leaked/crashed. After 2 calls to Olympus they did fix it for free and it's been good ever since but I never took it underwater again, but I did give it a good rinse after each use so it was water tight but I only used it as a topside yak camera which is pretty much all I'm looking for now.

Went to use it a couple days ago and everything works perfectly INCLUDING RECORDING AND PLAYBACK OF VIDEO, but when I take a still shot all I get is a screen full of horizontal lines with a washed out pick behind the lines.

Olympus says they don't repair that model any more. I was gonna give repair a try if it was cheap enough as it was a good tough camera up until a few days ago.

Yi 4K camera (still pic and video), $190.  This thing is small (slightly bigger than a credit card) and you need to get a waterproof case (a kit is about $30).  Never try the toughness portion, but mine survived surf launches, drops, etc.  Plus it is encased in waterproof housing.

Here is the Yi 4k+, the latest/current gen, $340:

Also most smart phones take just as good as pictures as the cameras that are mentioned if not better.  Just invest in a nice waterproof case and a way to not drop it and you are good to go.  Unless you are like Tote and refuse to get a cell phone.
