Saw one online for < $15.00 but not in stock.  Anyone know of a local supplier?

I bought my Promar traps directly from the distributor for around $15 - $20.  I called them (1-866-264-1562) and told that none of their local retailers stocked the TR-102 traps that I use.

Chuck,

Why did you pick the 102 over the 101? Seems like the finer mesh of the 101, you'd be able to make bait as well.

Elric, that's good question.  If I remember correctly the 101 is small -- only about half the size of the 102.

Also, you have to remember to modify the traps to include the two round escape rings per the regs.

How do you interpret this?

Quote
(c) Crab traps shall have at least two rigid circular openings of not less than four
and one-quarter inches inside diameter so constructed that the lowest portion of
each opening is no lower than five inches from the top of the trap.

As I see it, if I buy or make a 24" high trap I must put the 4.25" I.D. rings less than 0.75" from the top of the trap so that the bottoms of the rings are no lower than 5" from the top.  What's the point of that?  Make the little guys climb in order to get out?  lol

Yup... the regs are stupid with regards to the escape rings.  I couldn't figure the logic either, but I added them anyway.

Jonathan, if you or Elric want to see how I easily modified my TR-102's.... just let me know.

Got an explanation.  The escape rings are located near the top in case the trap gets sanded in.  The follwing was also recommended:

Also use rotten cotten on your escape ring on the square sport cages. This allows all crab to escape if the pot gets lost and prevents it from trapping and killing crab until the cage rots and yes even lets the buggers out the top when it silts in and starts to get burried.

Looks like ncka.org got noticed. Alright crabhawk, if we EVER feel the need to cast our crab traps rather than just drop em straight down, we'll call you.
