I had a window Saturday AM...decided I would stare at sand for an hour or so and if no luck go to diff spot and harvest some RCG/Lings for dinner.

Spotted this shorty right off the bat...

All I saw was something weird looking in the sand that turned out to be where the tail joins the body...when I poked the weird spot in the sand she took off...the rest of the body was totally buried and I didn't see it at all...

Tracked her down and got a better look and confirmed she was short.

Then spent 5+ more hours looking for the big mama I was sure was hiding somewhere. No luck.

Makes me wonder how many I miss seeing that are totally buried like that?!?

Sincerely,

Jim

I watched his three times and I still don't see it before it gets spooked. How you saw it at all is impressive.

that's an awesome video, I wish I knew more sandy spots like that and a good place to look.  I've yet to try and spear a halibut.  Do people spear off beaches for Striper and halbut often? I figure that would be a pretty sketchy scenario and more than likely bad vis.  but I've never tried it so i wouldn't know.

Will, I had some good luck with Stripers in the surf last year, but this year I have struck out time after time...hoping they are just gonna arrive later than last year?!???

Here is some footage from last summer:

And here's some footage of various flat fish from 2014 and 2015...

Nice, I always bring my gear in case the surf is flatter than the report says it is.  Occasionally see people pulling in large stripers off the beach and always wanted to try spearing some.
