Hi everyone, me and the family are moving to McKinleyville in July.

I'm an avid kayak fisherman from San Diego looking forward to learning the NorCal ropes. I'll be bringing a couple of boats with me so hopefully will have all the tools I'll need (aside from the heavy weather gear). I'm eager to get out with anyone in the area for a fish. I'll be launching in the bay to start and get the feel of the place. Hoping the lings are as much fun to catch as yellowtail.

Any words of advice (aside from "go back to SoCal") are appreciated.

Cheers!

Welcome, warburto. Lingcod are great, but sadly I don't think they are in quite the same league as yellowtail. Don't forget that the ocean up here is so much less forgiving. A good wetsuit or drysuit is mandatory. Hope to see you out on the water.

Lings are not as fun as YT.  And, Welcome to NorCal.  We accept refugees.

Welcome.  The bay really isn't any safer than the ocean if that's what you are worried about.  I'd hit the ocean first out of Trinidad.  We have a big and active group up here.  See you out there.
