Have a new Eliye5 chirp about three years. Always had issurs but bought a nrw deucer and did all updates and resets to keep it going until today.
Launched out from Shelter cove at 6am and 30 minutes on still no GPS lock. Reset on the water but no fix then the whole screen displayed backwards and all messed up.
Came home checked all contacts and no water damage verified. I give up. Time for a dragonfly???
P.s. If I didn't have a compasd, I might still ne lost in the water. It was a very foggy morning.

Thats sucks Michael.  I had similar problem with my first lowrance unit...they replaced it under warranty and no problems in the last couple years...did you catch any fish?

It was actually quiet scary as I was heading to the whistle and soon drifted north towards rocks.
I dropped a big hammer hoping to be on a structure and miraculously landed two keeper lings. Then I used the compass to head back as the fog was still very thick.

Been in that situation before.  Its kind of eerie.  Fog really muffles the sound too so you can end up alot closer to spots you dont want to be.   Glad you got some fish and made it back safe.

Good luck with ur FF

Google Maps on you cell phone makes a good backup GPS also. Even better if you have the Navionics app on it also.

Depends on your phone I think. My iPhone GPS and Navionics works without cell reception, just make sure you look at the area on navionics at home while you still have internet so it can download the maps. Then you can use it later without internet.

The GPS will work without cell service. The maps might need to be downloaded via cell service. Navionics allows you to download and save the map. Google also allows download and saving for use without cell service. However satellite view is best and needs cell service to display. You can view the area while in service and it will still display later as long as you don't close the app. Play around with it ahead of time to see how yours works.
