Stupid question but I'm not sure I have his right. Just bought a shimano rod and tekota 500 LC reel. Are they all right handed? If the line counter is facing up, the logo is upside down. And it only attaches where the eyelets are on top of the rod not underneath. Is this right?

This is how it's mounted
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Yep, that's right!  :smt002  No not all reels are right handed.  I prefer using lefty's myself.  But there are fewer choices on the left hand models.

Most of the time i've seen Shimano left handed models end in the number 1.  Such as one of my favorites for rockfishing, the Cardiff 401A.  There are very few left handed line counter reels, but there are some options out there if that's what your looking for.

Bummer I like leftys but I'll life. Seems a little weird they would make the logo upside down doesn't it?

The "Logo" is not upside-down, it is there for others to see. This is planned so when on display ( as in a sales counter) the brand name is seen clearly.

Shimano should have doubled down and put letters in reverse order so it would look right in the rear view mirror of the car in front of it. Let's do wrong right for Pete's sake. Nice reel logo looks stupid like that.
