Made it out on Saturday morning with my buddies Jeff and Manuel.

Have been out with Jeff several times now, and it is always a pleasure to get to hang out with him, and to get to be on his beautiful 41 foot Riviera.  :smt007 :smt007

Manuel is a good friend whose wife works with my wife, and he works for North Monterey County Fire so if you ever get in trouble in that area he will be there to help you out.  :smt004

We got on the water at first light and it was a beautiful morning, and there were whales all around.

Worked between Monterey and Moss, between 130 and 160 FOW, combo of blue died chovies and purple haze hoochies about 100 feet down on the wire.

We lost 4 fish and were starting to get that skunky feeling, but then right at 1130am we finally boated a nice one!

Reset the lines, circled around and 15 minutes later had another one in the box!!

By this time Jeff's brother Martin was anchored off Del Monte in his Sailboat, the wind had picked up, and we were thirsty, so we headed over and side tied up with him and chilled and kicked back for awhile.

Jeff took one fillet off the bigger fish, and gave me the rest of it and Manuel took the other slightly smaller fish and he shared it with his compadre and with the guys at his fire house.

It was a great day with good friends, and I was amazed again at how AWESOME fresh Salmon tastes!!

Scraped the carcass for sashmi "scraps" and ate that Saturday night.

Sunday my brother in laws came over and grilled the collar for them, baked a big piece of the fillet, and served them some pretty pieces of the buttery sashimi. No pics of these dishes cuz they ate it as fast as I could serve it.  :smt005

Monday I had a few more scraps of sashimi for lunch and the belly cut for dinner.

Today I have the baked head for lunch, and will do the carcass for dinner.

Feel very fortunate to have been able to get out and chase and harvest these amazing fish!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

the sashimi scraps are the best! I was lucky enough to get some fresh the week before and did the same thing with the "scraps".

congrats on a great day out there Jim!

Awesome fish!  It's nice to have a friend with a boat... even nicer to have a friend with a boat that has a stripper pole in the galley.  :smt044

Good shit Big Jim ! I could relate to the creaminess of The fresh king Salmon sashimi. I cut some out of the belly of the fish that I caught and it just melted in your mouth.🤙

Nice work, Jim.

Sashimi scraps... I'm not sure if that's brave or stupid. Either way, I'm sure it was damn tasty!
