I've got a hobie adventure island.  Thats the one with 2 outriggers and a sail.  It is 16 feet long and 150# fully loaded.  I was wondering how hard it would be to turn with it on the back of a pickup.  Anyone try hauling around a long kayak?  Maybe put a hitch extension like this guy?

If you do your own hitch extension make it so it extends only a few inches past your tailgate. From there it should go straight up as high as the tailgate. Make the extension as long as you want from there.
This way the end of the extension will be level with your tailgate and you can pull into a parking lot without scraping the extension on the ground every time.

Up until recently I hauled my Tarpon 160i and my AI in my 6'4" bed. No problems! Just have to be real careful not to back it into your garage door, the kayak will win  :smt044

Recently switched to bed racks for fear of someone rear ending the kayaks.

I haul my 2016 Outback in the bed of my lil 2001 S-10 pickup with one of these. http://www.austinkayak.com/products/15163/Boonedox-T-Bone-Bed-Extender.html Just make sure to strap it in tight and you're good.

Use the Boondox type extender.  The curved pipe rising from your hitch will help when you drive over curbs.  I use it with a 12 foot kayak and a 6 ft truck bed. My Pro Angler lays flat on the bed.  For the Outback I put two 3"x3" by 4' long foam supports under the hull in the bed to keep the boat from leaning over to one side and cushion the ride a bit.

Thanks for the responses from all.   I was worried about the turn radius but now I have to  think about being rear ended also.  Hopefully its easier to load (vs car topping).

Use the Boondox type extender.

Cool.  Found one on ACK.

I use a cheap $70.00 bed extender from Harbor Freight to haul my Outback.  If you cinch both ends down it doesn't rattle and I haven't had any problems with it.  http://www.harborfreight.com/truck-bed-extender-69650.html

Not to hijack, but for those of you who use a bed extender, can you launch directly from the truck to the water at a boat ramp?
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I put my 16.5 boat in my 8' bed with tailgate down.  Short trips usually.  The truck attached to the bed is pretty old.  And I fly a red flag with a red bike light attached.

I could if my emergency brake worked. :smt003  In all honesty though, I don't see the launching being the hard part, it is the loading. I have a heavy, geared up Outback and trying to slide it into the truck isn't easy at an incline. I usually put on the Wheeleez through the scuppers and load it on flat ground. I try to stay away from ramps with a long incline because I have no emergency brake and it's not fun dragging the yak.
