I see shadow Cliffs started doing inspections now. I live in Union City but was going to Shadow Cliffs to avoid inspections. Not that I ever got denied at Quarry when I went there. Are the inspections about the same? Or is one easier?

I have passed all of my inspections at both lakes even though they have found moisture and/or sand in my kayak on a few occasions.  Angela at Quarry Lakes gives a thorough inspection compared to the people at SC.

Seems the same.   At Shadow Cliff, they didn't ask me to seperate my oar. Sometimes Quarry does.  But overall fairly relaxed for kayakers.

I haven't been to Quarry Lakes. But Shadow Cliffs is the most relaxed compared to the other lakes I've been inspected at. I would like to know how the fishing compares? A lot of good size bass and trout at Shadow Cliffs.

For quarry or shadow, do you know if they ask you to pull your trolling motor screw apart?  they happened to ask at loch lomond, and I could not get the thing off.  they relented but only bc the unit was bone dry.  would like to take it to EBMud lake but don't want to get caught out

I was asked to take my oar apart at shadow once.  :smt005  I probably worry about the inspection to much. Guess its a good thing.

This could change soon at SC. They were training new inspectors last week.  The previous guy, Dustin, is going back to San Pablo. Not sure if anyone has been there within the last week to see how the new folks at shadow cliffs are.

Never been to either of those places, but last summer at Lexington it completely depended on the inspector. One time, the person just looked at it, didn't touch a thing, and was surprised to learn that kayaks can have hatches that allow access to the inside (not that she actually bothered to open a hatch...). Another time, the inspector wanted me to take my whole AI down (it was car topped) and he checked it pretty completely. He even made me open the drain plugs on the amas.

Personally, I think inspections are pointless. If I set my Hobie out in the sun for a week, there would still be moisture inside most of the threaded inserts. And, if you use grease on your mirage drive, that'll trap a lot of moisture internally too. Neither of those (and many other examples) is ever going to be inspected.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Dustin was very, very thorough when he inspected my kayak and asked to see all my gear and even took my paddle apart. The last time I was there it was an older lady that was very nice and not as strict. I likes hur !   :smt001

Gonna miss shadow now that rock and salmon is about to open. Unless seas are to rough to go out, then it may be an option.

Angela at Quarry Lakes can be thorough if she doesn't know you. I've heard she's failed some people if your kayak isn't dry inside. I've had mine with some sand under the hatch and she let me pass.

I was at Shadow Cliffs last Saturday and Tom, the new guy, wasn't too strict as he remembered me from the previous weekend. I think he's a little less thorough than Dustin.

Just do a quick wipe down the night before and load your kayak on the morning you're going, you'll be fine.
