I spoke with Jon Jon a couple months ago and he was very helpful.  He is limited in his availability so I suggest that you make a reservation sooner than later.  If you email him he will give you the number of his reservation manager who does all the scheduling.  Go for it!  Of course there are never any guarantees but he is all about catching fish and has a ton of experience.

As far as the guide license goes what he told me was that "I am now the only Kayak Fishing Pro Guide in the state and the first and only Fly Fishing Guide on Maui.".  There are plenty of kayak tour guides on the islands but Jon Jon is the only one I've found (and believe me I've looked) who is a kayak fishing guide.  Some of the tour guides will do kayak fishing trips (sometimes) but you have to ask around and see if you can make contacts.

I was speaking with a couple of the pro guys on Kauai about the lack of KF guides on The Islands and they said the hoops they would have to jump through to make it work are outrageous.  One of the main points made was that the KF guide license is specific to an area.  Meaning that a licensed KF Guide would be limited to guiding in a defined area as dictated by his license.  This would only be a portion of the waters around an island not the entire island.  If an area was blown out due to weather, the seas to big to launch, or whatever they would not have the option of moving to a better location to get the client on the water.  This would obviously cause viability issues for a guide business.

There are guys over there trying to get changes made so maybe we will see more guide availability in the future.
