I'm fishing on my buddie's boat this Sunday and I lost my sturgeon card while clamming at Crab Fest (can't get a duplicate until I take time off work and go to a DFG office  :smt012), so I will be looking for any fish other then Sturgeon to fish for. My buddies will be sturgeon fishing so I will try and assist them with rigging and find places to anchor. Can I catch halibut this time of year? And if so, methods? Or can I catch bait fish like smelt in that area? What else can I catch and what bait to use? I'll even be happy with a bat ray I suppose. I hear they are good eating. :smt001

If I was in that area and wanted to avoid the sturgeon, I'd be dunking some bullheads looking for stripers.

Fish for stripers. You might have to release some by catch, there's a bunch of these long ugly ass fish around there too
