I drove up there on Tuesday to see that it was closed due to "high water". Anyone know if it is open yet or where I could find out?

When it was closed last weekend this site announced it. I don't see it there now, and they expected to open this week sometime.

If you can't get a hold of him, here is the dept of water that issues fish/boat permits for Hennessy:

Contact Water Division administrative staff at 707-257-9521.  Our downtown Napa headquarters is located at 1340 Clay Street (Clay & Franklin Streets), and is open weekdays 8am to 5pm.

The lake has been reopened as of 1/24/17. Water is high fishing should be good. Just beware of the spillway as it is still spilling water. Enjoy!

Thanks ifishalot and Sunburned.

ifish, when you say fishing should be good, are you talking bass, trout, cats, or crappie?  I kind of want to target cats but I always love bass fishing.  I've never targeted cats at Hennessey, wondering if I should head toward the creek arm or to the north end.  Any tips?

Wherever water is flowing into the lake, the cats will be there.

I couldn't find anything in the regs, so I'm wondering if I could use my two pole stamp and putboth lines in the water.

Two pole stamps are allowed at all inland lakes. Catfishing at Hennessey is terrible I wouldn't waste my time but that is me personally. Bass fishing is slow but improving had a friend go out yesterday and he caught a 8 pound largemouth and a few smaller ones. It's not red hot by any means but it is your best chance at a big one. Crappie and redear  fishing should start taking off by next month late Feb early March.

Thanks for the tips. An 8lb bass is one of my fishing goals for this year. Any ideas on water temps? I don't want to bring more gear than I'll use. I've also got a new downrigger and am going to try and learn how to troll for trout. Is it too early in the year for that? I hope to get out there this weekend. I'll post a hookup if a do.
