New Derby Concept

Not sure how new this might be but I got an email from a dive group and they are having a ling derby ( spearfishing only ).
I like their concept and was wondering if anyone would be interested in having a similar type of derby in the future.
It goes like this. Everyone interested signs up with ZERO entry fee. But by signing up you agree to cover your losses. Heaviest ling wins. For each difference in pounds between the winners ling and yours you owe the winner a dollar.
So if the winner has a 15 pound ling, and yours is only ( only  ) 10 pounds, you owe the winner $5. If you caught nothing you owe the winner $15.
It could be a MFF or MBF format and could even be converted to inches instead of pounds.
Doesn't necessarily have to be just lings either. It could be for LMB, trout, etc.
What do ya think?

That sounds like a good grudge match format for bunch of people who show up after a hook-up post. It could work well with inches on trout and bass, or even sturgeon.
