Sorry to report that the Homewood South ski lodge (Tahoe Ski Bowl Lodge, for Old timers) burnt down early this morning  :smt010.    No injuries and no exposures or additional  structures lost.  Many Thanks to Squaw Valley Fire, Truckee Fire, Incline Fire, Lake Valley Fire, North Star Fire, SW Gas, Liberty Energy Line Crews  ( Even Firemen need Heros)  :smt002     I learned to ski there in 1965, and have run many a medical aid for skiers as well as loungers last 29 years as a North Tahoe Fire Medic.  North Tahoe Fire Facebook will have pictures and report from our PIO shortly.  Well back to my Captain duties.....lots of janitorial chores and toilets to clean at the big house  :smt003

Sorry about your childhood lodge going up in smoke Russ.  :smt009

Was snow even invented in 1965?

....swimming in heated salt water pools that are now dirt filled and covered with lawn too.

Damn you're old  :smt008

That is terrible. Not suspected of explosives related, I am guessing, my phone hasn't rang yet.

Investigation still in early stage with other assisting Agencies.  Me, I like Dancing in the Devil's Ballroom instead of sifting  thru cold, wet ashes in the winter   :smt002.

Reminds me of the lodge at Mt. Shasta burning down just before opening for the season in 1971.  Makeshift bar, garbage cans supporting planks.  Beer packed in snow.

That's a bummer!
BITD Homewood encouraged you to cut school.
On Wednesdays, with a student ID card, you could ski all day for $6 on REAL snow. All day meant ALL DAY. No lift lines. Ski down, cruise up, repeat.
Sometimes I even missed school on Thursday just so my legs could recover.  :smt044

Hate to see a memorable landmark go down for all of you. I can't say I have had the pleasure of skiing there, I know how places become special.

My friends cabin was there. We spent a lot of great adventures there Winter and Summer time in the early 70's.

Oh man I was there last year and got turned away because they had a private party. That sucks, looks like a cool lodge too. Sorry to hear about your childhood ski spot man. Glad nobody was injured.

I love skiing those small family owned resorts.  Homewood will be open again in a day or two, soon as the other resorts jump in and donate equipment and gear.  I'm sure of it!!
