Manresa

Has anybody spent any time at Manresa campground? I'm coming from San Diego and  looking to head up there at the end of the week to camp and fish the area. I also wanted to fish some of the Santa Cruz spots and possibly the Monterey area. Any recommendations on what I'll have a good chance at targeting? Any help would be much appreciated!

I live within walking distance from Manresa SB and about two miles from the camp grounds.There is decent surf fishing at the beach right where you're stayingTry tossing motor oil grubs for perch and pencil poppers/3oz Kastmasters in the AM for striper.Not sure how long you'll be staying, but salmon opens on April 7 and that (along with halibut) will be the main target until rockfish/ling opens May 1st.Have fun!

Thanks for the info. How's the campground? Do you think I have a shot at some butt's this time of year? If so, any depth preference?

The camp grounds are pretty nice and they are a short walk to the beach and about 15-20 minutes from relatively easy launches in Santa Cruz and Capitola.Your best bet for halibut IMO would be either in front of the Santa Cruz harbor,off the lighthouse at Steamer Lane and/or sandy stretches off the mile reef in Capitola.I usually set up drifts in 40-80 feet of water with a majority of my fish being caught in about sixty feet of water between mid-June and September.However, I have caught halibut in early April so it's worth a try.
