I want to cure a batch of shrimp for steelhead. (called coon shrimp) It's difficult to find whole small shrimp in the SF bay area to use. I've been thinking of using grass shrimp. They are easy enough to get with a small gage trap and a little bait. Has anyone tried curing them for steelhead? If so what was the result in terms of toughness and effectiveness on steelhead?
Thanks,

I've never used whole shrimp, but have used pieces of shrimp tails. I cut them into small pieces, then use pre made pautzke fire cure, usually in orange. After a day or two the shrimp are nice and solid and keep on the hook very well. Then the night before I go fish I soak them in some pautzke nectar so they take on a nice egg scent with the shrimp scent.

It works well. I prefer roe, but shrimp is easy to get and more durable.

Thanks 3$J,
I've cured eggs before, but I haven't been successful for the past few years getting them.  I like the idea of using medium shrimp and cutting them up.  On another board, one person uses the small bay shrimp.  I'm primarily interested in finding out if grass shrimp are feasible.  I've watched the you tube link you listed along with several others.
