Norcal and cencal are both having ab-opener events at fort ross (weather permitting of course) on the 1st.  This is a good chance to meet a bunch of the serious divers on the north coast in one place, and to get abalone that've been unmolested for a few months.  ;)

I'll be there for sure.  I think there will be a bunch the underwater hockey guys coming up too.  It should be an incredible feast.  I will bring the wild pig sausages, homemade wine, etc.  Hope you guys can make it.  It should be a fun family day, weather permitting.  I think I will try to get there by about 9.  I have a white Tundra with license plate IHNTFSH, ( I HUNT FISH), because I do  :smt002.

Would this be a good venue for a newbie Ab diver?

Probably.  There'd be plenty of advice to get and you could probably even tag along to a 'honey hole' if you've got a kayak.

I usually daytrip it or sleep in my van on a pullout.   If someone's paranoid of a pullout than I go to salt point.  That's a bitch though because you have to make reservations before you know the weather is okay, so you're likely to lose your reservation $.

I have family visiting this weekend (not of the diving type) so probably won't be diving Sun.  May well go the next weekend.  Things have been pretty hectic here and it'll be nice to dive off some steam.

Ocean cove campground is first come, first served -no reservations-and has a s*itload of sites, never seen it full, and is in salt point less than 20 min north of ft ross. Ramp and zero wave access to good hunting grounds.
Ive never went crabbing there, but im sure its worth a try.
Question, whats legal to spear right now?

Lings also open April 1st to spear and shore-based fishers, so pretty much all of the spearable fish (i.e. not salmon or stripers) will be in season.
