My girlfriend wants to go to Bolinas Lagoon, she says her and her X used to catch crab out there on his port a boat. If weather for the opener is bad I may try this place instead. Has anyone ever crabbed here before?

Hi, when the season opened last year in March I flew out to Bolinas beach to attempt snaring and it did not seem doable.  I was going toward stinson and I saw some people fishing in the lagoon.  They were crab snaring and so I got my gear and picked up 3 that session.  Little secret, they hate kayakers in a hopefully descent way.  They told me that the kayakers clean out all the crab, which I doubt.  Now that I am a kayaker, I intend to hit a launch on the Bolinas side, maybe at an old boat club pier but I have done no recon.  If you look at satellite there is access but where the snare guys are on the stinson side the access may be tough.  Not because of the people but there are no kayak access signs posted.  I will drop my pots there on a Monday soon if the season opens properly.  Gonna attempt Tomales first.
“I’m going fishing.”  They said, “we will go with you.”

If you're looking to catch crab from shore in Marin County, I'd recommend Muir Beach. I've snared a lot of dungees from that beach.

Nick and I have crabbed the lagoon from Seadrift which is a private neighborhood on the Stinson side. We had family friends that lived there that would let us in. We would fish for leopard sharks and rays and crabs would be walking away with our bait so we started dropping pots. There were lot of clickers but I never got anything big out of the lagoon. The majority of the dungies would have black lines in their meat and I pretty much stopped crabbing there after that because I wasn't sure if it was safe to eat. Who knows what the crabs eat out of that lagoon... Zombies...

That lagoon may be considered "inland waters" - if it is then pots wouldn't be allowed.  Might be worth finding out about.

The estuary and mouth area of the Eel River is considered "inland waters", so we only use rings down there now.

Thanks guys! Ya I'm not sure about the quality of the crabs there but my friend said she used to drop crab rings with her x on his porta boat and they would catch dungies there lol. I guess I'll find out! Thanks for your input! Annie, if you crabbed and ate the crab then it must be ok, because you don't have any extra fingers and toes  :smt044
