OK, this is probably a real longshot for a fishing forum, but here goes...

We've got a modest-sized house in the hills and our main source of heat is a pellet stove, which is awesome. But, we've got a couple of small bedrooms on the lower level that are out of range of the pellet stove. One of those bedrooms currently has a direct vent propane heater (11,000 BTU) that we're looking to replace. The propane heater we have now is the Eskabe DVEL 12, which looks nice, but otherwise is a total piece of junk. It's limped along for a few years, but now it's time to replace it

I'm wondering if anybody has suggestions as to brands that are reliable. Thanks.

If u have the electrical supply I strongly recommend envi e-heat electric convection heaters. I Installed one in my daughter's room when we remodeled. On full blast for the month I had maybe a $6 increase in pge bill ( tested before to know for sure) great heater. Google it. Now I leave it on lowest setting  and it keeps a 12*12 room 68 consistently

This is what we install at my company. It would not be a direct swap, however. It looks to me that the hole for the vent is about 4-6" higher than your existing system. I am not personally aware of any 20" tall direct vent furnaces.

IMO, after a lot of research, checking with local HVAC and purchasing one about 8 years ago, I'd go with a Rinnai.

I found this guy Al, who had had the best prices - I tried to buy local but no one in our area would/could come close.

Here's  his 1980's website:

Valor freestanding direct vent propane fireplace horizontally vented? Low turn down rates and thermostatic remote control for small room. Efficient and easily serviced, self install is a real option. The only Electric required is AA batteries in the valve control so if you lose power you don't lose heat.
