My Hobie Adventure Island has a cup holder just behind where my left elbow rests. On my old Adventure (no Island) I'd installed a Scotty flush mount into the base of the cup holder, which worked great with a short extension post. But the rudder lines run under that cup holder, and I didn't want anything interfering with those on the AI, as sailing can put a lot of stress on the rudder.

I'd been stumped as to how to install a rod holder base in that cup holder without having anything protruding on the inside, below the bottom. Then I saw the Railblaza SidePort, and figured that would work, after a bit of customization.

The first picture shows the SidePort with a piece of starboard shaped to fit the cup holder. The next picture includes a backing piece (also starboard) shaped to fit inside the cup holder (it's hard to see due to the shadow, but I think you can get the idea). The rest of the pictures show it installed on the kayak.

It's rock solid, with no bending or give whatsoever. With a little work, I think a SidePort mount could be installed in lots of places on a kayak where you wouldn't ordinarily think you could put a rod holder.

Nice mod. I usually put my spare salmon lead or spare water bottle there though.

Dude if you put it at the right depth, that cup holder could double as a support for the lake troller dr
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I'm aware of the world-famous Pat R mounts. I actually made some mounting brackets of my own out of 1" starboard that I had around. That gives me 4 Scotty mounts on the aka bars. But, I really prefer the cup holder mount over anything else, as it also makes a great arm rest.

I keep water inside the hull in a camelbak and run a tube up the back of the seat---note the blue valve in the last 3 pictures.

One thing I forgot to mention... The Railblaza stuff all comes with mounting hardware. That sounds great until you realize that the supplied nuts and bolts are size #10, when the mounts can accommodate 1/4". I can't see any possible advantage to using the smaller size.
