I'm volunteering for the Whale Festival activities at Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse Station over the weekend. Is anyone in the area interested in paddling/fishing on one of the days or have any suggestions/hints on locations? I usually paddle the rivers (Big, Albion, and Noyo) but have yet to try my hand at fishing. I would welcome the company.

Big J:

Most fishing in that area is closed until June 1.  Salmon is open but it needs to be flat.

I'm in Fort Bragg. I've been dropping crab traps in Big River every once in a while and doing relatively well, 5-7 crabs per outing. I sure wish rock fish from boats was open; I'd be out there in that case. I haven't heard a lot about salmon in this area yet; they are still pretty far out. I've been meaning to put in at Russian Gulch to paddle around. Weekends are not that great for my schedule however; my girlfriend works all week and I'd hate to leave her on the beach.
