A good friend, Ross, from San Diego was in town. We hadn't dived together for more than two years mostly because he's living half time in Indonesia, getting spoiled on that warm clear water and big pelagics... that's another story.
Anyway despite not a promising marine forecast we decided to try a shore dive in Big Sur. I have a tandem yak, but since we weren't sure how good the diving was and I had a bunch of chores waiting, a shore dive seemed speedier.
Lost of cross swell action and current where we hopped in, but surprisingly the viz was pretty good - easy 15' and up to 20' in places. You can see the foam lines in the first photo showing how the currents were swirling.
As the title says, I definitely am not up to BigJim's level, but we had a great time out there, chased down a float that was rapidly heading out to sea, had some laughs, and at least had some dinner, if no trophies, at the end of the day. Good time and I'll keep shooting for the high bar Jim sets for the rest of us mortals!

Nice job getting out at BigSur this weekend!!

That was our plan A but decided to play it safe and go for the more protected waters up off Carmel...

Any time you get out and back home safe (especially in an area like Sur) is a successful day in my book...the fish and dinner are just an added bonus!!

Glad you had fun, and thanks for sharing!!

Sincerely,

Jim
