One of my favorite places is Panama. I absolutely love the country. I fell in love with the place the 2 times I was there while in the Army.

I'm thinking about buying these 2 neighboring plots of land to live on and build a small charter fishing business. I can hire a couple of Kuna Indians (they know the Gatun Lake really well) to run the business. The first has a house on it I can live in. the second I can build a couple of area correct cabins as part of the fishing package. Build a decent dock with a couple Bass boats, fishing kayaks and a Kuna hand crafted fishing canoe. If things go well I can eventually get a ocean worthy fishing boat and run ocean charters for Barracuda, Hammerheads and Tarpon with the occasional Sailfish.

Sounds like an awesome plan!  I spent a short time in Ft. Clayton... Panama was amazing fun.  The jungle is awesome.

I hear there are quite a few outfitters down there now, both for "jungle adventures" and "water sports."  It's on my bucketlist to get back down there.

Sounds like you really love it.   But I hope it is just not you that has to love it.   Otherwise it sounds like a good retirement plan.  Keep us updated.  Always been interested to see Panama.  I've heard and read so many nice things about it from other retirees like me and all the retirement magazines I seem to get free.

I can't recommend Panama as a fishing destination highly enough. Gatun Lake has some of the nicest Peacock Bass one can catch.

For Divers the lake is great. Where else can you dive down to explore a complete train still on the tracks? You can dive the gulf and Pacific the same day. The coast has done amazing coral reefs.

For the wife and those that love to shop Zona Libra in Colon is a favorite for ships coming through the Canal to sell there cargo. Rock bottom prices.

Sounds like a good retirement, I can a test to the good fishing. I have been through the canal several times on ships, when we were sitting at anchor on west coast waiting our turn at night would lower the gangway to the water and float a strip of squid on top bounce along hull of ship, small yellow fin would take it, re-hook the tuna live that is when the action would start you could watch the baracuda from far off headed for it. Fun way to fish.

That was a plan I had but in Mexico along Baja. Build a dock and advertise in Sunset Magazine. Then the cartel went nuts down there and I will never get my wife back on board with the idea. Best of luck to you!!

I like the plan. Earlier this year I saw a entire charter business for sale in Costa Rica . Boat, rods, gear and clients all ready to go and I don't remember the price but I remember thinking it was a helluva good deal. Work towards your goals and anything is possible
