I went on Sunday afternoon.  I got rained on for the first 15 minutes but it cleared up nicely for the rest of the afternoon.  My public service announcement is the paddle through the middle slough is becoming difficult (see pics) with the hyacinth.  I had to go through a couple of 20 to 30 foot sections where there wasn't a clear path and I had to work a bit to get through.

It has been a while since I've been to the preserve.  I was hoping to do a little salmon jigging or even some stripers but none were to be had.  In 2.5 hours of fishing I caught a handful of fish, and just as many came unbuttoned, with the biggest a 14" bass.  The beginning of the fork to the left heading up the Cosumnes will yield bass by fishing the edge of the hydrilla (I think that is what it is called).  I saw some nice marks just past the bridge so I jigged in 10 feet of water for about 15 minutes and moved on.  At the confluence there was one boat jigging but nada.  I didn't see any marks so I moved on to focus on bass.  I did have a good size salmon come up on my crankbait just as I pulled it out of the water!

The wind and the drift created inconsistent drift depending on where you were located.  I caught fish on a senko, carolina rigged creature bait and a crankbait.  The carolina rig slowly dragged through the hydrilla was the most successful technique.

Someone had left a nice paddle there.  The person that found it showed it to us and once the other gentlemen that was launching the same time I mentioned to him how expensive it was, he then tried to sell it to us for $50.  :smt011 He said he was joking and I hope he was.  He said he would turn it.  If it is anyone here I hope you get it back.

Not getting rained on the entire time, not getting hit by lightening and catching fish = good time.  Just know it may be a bit of exercise to get out there ... although there's fish in the middle slough and saw quite a few swirls in front of me as I was paddling back.  Good luck!
