Drug the beast OB up from the depths of my yard, getting her ready for the trip to the recently opened Loch Lomond.  (we went the following Monday 3/12) Gave her a warm water bath, (6mo of rain had her covered with mud) opened the hatches to wipe her out below deck, and as I spotted what should have been my sonar transducer, this contorted mess was not my sonar transducer!
I looked at this, this thing that was supporting my transducer up off the hull bottom at least 3”     The transducer was stuck to the top of this hollow, twisted mass protruding up from the hull.  I was shocked to see it.
I think what happened is this; at my old house I used to store my OB from the ceiling, with ropes & pulley’s upside down.  I had installed my sonar at that house, and for the transducer install I used Lexel to affix it to the hull.  This stuff took almost 2 weeks to cure.
The sonar worked flawlessly all last season.  Before I moved, there were a few days in Scotts Valley that got real hot outside, and real hot inside where I had my OB hanging.  Well, after that heat wave I’m sure the lexel gave in to the heat and “sagged” then the chill set in and cured the lexel again leaving it in the state I discovered a few days ago.
   Unbelievable.

Well I scrambled to re-affix the transducer to the hull, this time I used silicon.  After cleaning off the surface of the transducer, I reapplied it to the hull and duct taped it down.
In the morning, I checked the blob of silicon, it had “skinned” properly, felt hard, but it was a thick goob  I placed, so I hoped it cured fully before I turned on the sonar on the lake.
At the lake, the sonar seemed to function properly and normally.  It didn’t help the landing of anything with gills this time though.
