Anyone have experience with fishing gear sold on Amazon?

I recently bought a Revo Toro Beast from Cabelas at regular price.  I notice that most major retailers are selling for the same price of $399.  Been thinking about getting another one and stumbled upon Amazon and noticed they are selling it for significantly less at $292 + tax in CA.  I know that this is a fairly new reel so most places haven't discounted them yet.  I was just wondering if it was possible that Amazon may be getting it from unreliable sources therefore they are able to sell at a lower price point?  I've seen stuff cheaper on Amazon before but never by this much, over $100 difference.  Any input would be great, thanks.

I tend to be more cautious when buying from Amazon, I have purchased rods and reels from them but I make absolutely sure the serial number matches. I have a prime account and use it all the time - I never had any mistake or issues with the fishing gear but have sent back a few things with no hassles. If you want to share the Amazon link I can look into it for you.

I bought a couple of Abu reels and some associated parts off Amazon a few years ago. i was happy enough with all the purchases.

I got some line and other tackle from them in the spring cause I was lazy and got points accumulated from my mastercard.

Some of their sources are overseas.

Anyone think it possible they could source knock-offs without knowing and sell it as the real deal?  That was my major concern, as you all know it happens on ebay sometimes.  Those chinese knock-offs can be deceiving.  I just didn't wanna end up with an Abu Garza Revo Toro Bust.   :smt005

I think it'd be absolutely possible. I tend towards the stuff marked, "sold and fulfilled by Amazon" in the description for any stuff that's I'm concerned about receiving a knock-off.

I never buy on Amazon unless I can return it right away. Amazon return system is pretty painless and free for a lot of stuff.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

Yes. I bought an old CD that took 5 weeks to be delivered. It arrived from Singapore.

just make sure they are actually sold by amazon.com not one of those third party people that use amazon as fulfillment

i've bought a lot of fishing stuff on amazon and they are really hit or miss. they usually have shitty description on them so you have to make sure that the product number matches what you want. make sure you search the sku also for the item.

Looked again today and it is now offered by Sportsman's Outfitter instead of Amazon, which seems to be a legit retailer so I went with that option.  No taxes too!  Thanks everyone for your input.

I bought and Ecooda tiro casting reel which is a clear imitation of an Abu 6601 c-4. But it was free to return, no taxes, 2 day shipping. Upon recieving I took it apart, checked it out. Quality gears, carbon fiber drag washers, power handle. Actually very nicely done. Most likely reverse engineering overseas. I've been using it about a year and a half and it is in better shape still than my 6601 c-3. For 55 bucks to my doorstep I would buy another half dozen but they are no longer available. Kast King also makes a line of c-3 imitation reels last time I looked(red). They seem like they may be okay.
Amazon is tricky cause their prices fluctuate often. Sometimes I put something in my cart for a while and I get emails when pricing goes up and down. I saved about 80$ on my Irish setter work boots that way

Beware that while Amazon returns are for the most part trouble free, that ends at 30 days and Amazon doesn't accept any returns for ANY reason after that, you may have recourse with a manufacturer but not thru Amazon.

Found out the hard way, luckily it wasn't an expensive item.
