anyone with a Yahoo email account should change your password and disable the security questions. Yes, Yahoo recommends disabling the questions.

I've had my yahoo account for close to 20 years and have never changed the password (which is unique to yahoo email and nothing else).

You should assume you have been hacked by now, one way or another. Being careful, using unique usernames and passwords (and changing them often) is a must, while some hacks are relatively easy to resolve (credit cards are very forgiving), some  are very expensive (identity theft => fake id -> mortgage, etc.)

I just tried to log into my Yahoo account and it automatically prompted me to change my password.  But I had to go in and disable security questions which was easy.  Thanks Hojo!

You did not have to disable, but the rationale is that a hacker can claim his password was lost/forgotten and use the secret questions to get in. Probably why many services are prodding users to give a phone number.

Although it was just annonced, the hack happened 2 years ago, so any damage that was going to be done was probably done long ago.

I've had my credit card numbers stolen so many times I've lost count. But the best one was this past year when somebody filed a bogus tax return in my name, claiming a big refund.

Was identity theft victim about 5 yes ago.  In a span of 3 days the morons opened up accounts at  dept stores totalling about 8k.  Even wanted to buy car from Hilltop Auto online.  They did not get into our bank n credit cardsaccounts but the hassle of clearing name was not fun  :smt013

Not necessarily. Such breaches become when lots with bulk stolen data are available on black market, which could be years after breach. And right now some kid could be  trying the same username and password at your bank.

About 6 months ago my account was hacked.  I could not log in due to my password was changed.  my  jprtroy @ is no good anylonger.  Funny thing is I can still access the hacked account on my cell?  I can get emails from places I signed up for, and can read them, but cannot use pc to access the account now.
I can count the password characters on my cell and the count matches what my password used to be count wise.
