First let me say I feel like I may have posted an intro here a long time ago, then disappeared. Sorry about that. It can't locate my old account, if I had one, and I can't locate my old intro, if I had one, so starting over.

I'm a newbie to fishing, but have plenty of kayaking experience. I've taken 2 kayak fishing classes. The first was last year at Whiskeytown Lake in Redding, and I caught nothing, although fed lots of fish with my bait. The second was last weekend in Monterey, kelp fishing and I caught a fish!!! It was deemed too small to be worth keeping, but still, I caught a fish!

I'm hoping to fish more and get to the point where I have some idea what I'm doing. I want to stick with smallish fish, at least to start, so probably going to stick to kelp fishing like I did in the class.

My kayak is an Ocean Kayak Caper and it doesn't currently have a rod holder, but I could make do or use one of my boyfriend's kayaks.

My boyfriend, who's fishing and kayaking experience is the same as mine, has 2 kayaks, I think they are a Tarpon 120 or 130 or so, and a Hobie Mirage.

We don't yet own fishing rods/etc.

I'm going to look around the forums for advice.

Welcome back to NCKA.

Join some hookups and maybe even borrow some fishing poles and reels gear.

Aww, wish I could but we have house guests all weekend. I just looked at kayak connections info on the derby, out of curiosity. What does it mean "Largest game fish takes it all"? The winner takes everyone's fish?
