Hello everyone.

Father of two in Citrus Heights. I've really done more backpacking lately than fishing truth be told, occasionally fishing for Rainbow and Browns on certain trips. However, after a visit to the American River with my uncle (an avid fishermen) who visiting from out of town we saw not only folks kayaking but kayak fishing. He asked "Why don't you have one of those?" Damn good question I thought!

So this past weekend I purchased a Lifetime Tamarack Angler 120 at Big 5 for $200. Not the best kayak I know but it seems to be a good entry level kayak for someone like myself. Plus, it's fairly lightweight and fits in my truck bed.

I do have one question though? I would like to take it out and fish after work along the American, Natomas, Folsom areas since they are close to me. You have to pay to park in all the spots I know of to launch. That could get quite pricey fast. Are there spots to launch that you don't have to pay?

Thanks!

Welcome to the community, Omacron.

If you put up a separate thread in maybe the "Places to Launch and Camp" sub-forum or in General Talk and put a headline like "Free and secure parking along American River/Natomas area?" you'll get lots of responses from Sac area members.

See you around the boards.  :smt001

Welcome. You can park for free outside of the entrance to lake natoma at the park and ride, right off hazel. Folsom is a bit tough with a kayak. I finally bit the bullet and got a poppy pass. They work for all but the county parks around here.

Hit me up with any questions.
