I was a member of NCKA and participant in several freshwater activities before a scary event on the water in 2007.  I dropped out of kayaking then, and now, after several major medical procedures, I am returning to the water before it is too late.

I registered anew because I couldn’t remember my old screen name (maybe Grizz?) and the email that I used no longer exists, so I’m starting fresh.

Back then, I fished out of a Hobie Outback .  I fish freshwater only after being stalked by a 12’ to 15’ shark for a half an hour while surfing in Hawaii in the 60’s.  Homie don’t do saltwater.

As I said, I have had a series of medical problems since 2007, including a knee replacement, four Malignant Melanoma surgeries, heart surgery in December and a total hip replacement in March.  It dawned that I had been sitting around for the last few years waiting for the other shoe to drop.    I decided that, if I recovered enough mobility after the hip replacement, that I would start kayak fishing again while I can.

I purchased a trailer kit and put it together (I’m too damn old to be throwing a kayak around anymore), then bought a new Hobie Pro Angler 14 and have been rigging it for the last month.  Later this week, I’ll stand in line at the DMV to get the trailer registered and hope to be on the water (Lake Del Valle) by next week.

Get some.

With all those lower body problems is the hobie the best choice.  I use one because my arms neck and back are screwed up.

Have fun out there while you can.  Probably won't run across you as I fish Mostly salt but wish you the best getting back out there.

Thanks for the welcome, Mr. Matt.

DG,
Thank you.  Prior to the lull in kayaking, I fished from kayaks for quite a few years.  Back then, I kayak fished Sierra lakes.  As well as a few other brands, my main kayak before the Outback was a Wilderness Ride.   Fly fishing is difficult from a paddle kayak, so I demoed an outback and bought one.  The artificial knee and hip work a lot better than the old parts, so I don’t think that will be a problem.  If I get a little stiff, I’ll put out the downrigger and take it slow coming back.

Chuck

Hojoman,  That probably be me.  If you look real hard under that beard and picture just a mustache and goatee, you may recognize me.

I messaged the management trying to get my old "Grizz" back, but they never replied back.

Thanks for the welcome back Hojoman and ReelKnots.
