Folks: Thanks for the replies from my 3/3/07 Delta report; thinking of going to Big Break this weekend.  Are most of the bass tournaments out of Russo's/Frank Tract's area?  I was hoping Big Break would be a little less hectic.

The Delta Meadows report/pictures remind me of the days in North Carolina catching shad and stripers on the Roanoke River.  Need to visit the Walnut Grove area with the 8 wt. and the half and half's when the water warms and clears.

Thanks again for all of the advice...

Steve H.

With the FLW coming up in two weeks the delta will be busy Franks, Big break and white slough are top producers for these guys. Its a 200 boat tournament and open practice starts on the 9th. I think there is plenty for you. If this weather keeps looking good those big girls will start to bite. I think go for it. As for the tournaments they are mostly
out of Franks, Big Break and Ladds on the east side of the delta. Then you have a lot of smaller tournaments that will be in some of the other smaller marinas. Ill be up there on Saturday most likely in my bass boat. Untill I key in on the bigs ones then its kayak time.

Steve,

What are you fishing for? If your after the stripers you might want to consider heading across the river to Sherman Lake. I have heard that some are starting to show between there and Rio Vista bridge. As for Big Break there is a lot of water there so you will probably be able to find some out of the way places. And in my experience there are not a lot of finesse fisherman fishing in Big Break, they tend to be more run and gun types. Probably because Big Break can be some of the hardest water around to figure out. When I started fishing out there I heard a lot of "fish Big Break" because if you can figure out Big Break you have figured out most of the delta. Right now most of the weeds are gone so there is definately more water available to the PBers but as summer comes on there is a lot of water most PBers don't fish or can't get to.

Another thing I see is PBers always fishing the exact same places. You would be suprised how many times I have watched more than 10 boats in a hour fishing only the one same spot. Not 10 feet away, not down the tullies or the bank but pull up and fish for a couple minutes and then zoom away again.

In Big Break fishing for black bass look for the right structure (I've said it before and I really believe in it, structure can be the water also) and look for places other aren't fishing.

Originally I got into fishing to fish.
