"Second how is it going to blow away in the wind? "

Uh, you fall out and the wind pushes it away faster than you can swim?

You will figure out what you need to wear.  Just be sure you always have on your pfd clipped and zipped.

Looking forward to your fishing reports!! Remember no pix=didn't happen.

Bushy, If it's that windy out maybe I shouldn't be out in it? Another thought is similar to the lanyard in my go fast boat, if I'm ejected and am wearing it it kills the engine.

Maybe I should also wear a lanyard and attach myself to the yak? Just a thought!

Wind is actually only part of it.  A kayak, as a floating device with high surface resistance, is more affected by wind (even light wind) and current than an individual bobbing upright in the water.  a kayak can easily get away from you, especially if you are in a PFD, as they inhibit your ability to swim.  You can test this out on a local lake if you feel, in a light 5-10mph wind. the best protection while kayak fishing is to fish with a friend.  a friend can help you more than you could ever help yourself.

And the wind can surprise you, going from mild to wild in the blink of an eye.  If you are a couple miles offshore. It's important to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

this, and if you paddle out in a dead calm morning the wind can kick up before you get back in.  urp.  Nowhere man scooped me.  Gnarly, it's time for you to go fishing.

I used to connect myself to the kayak with a surfboard leash when I was all alone.  Just remember to take off the leash and take off the paddle leash when surf launching or landing.

TLG, JJQ, Chewy and I were all out one day in MBK. It was calm and easy. Suddenly the fan turned on in a blink. JJQ coasted to shore in his damned hobie. TLG, Chewy and I paddled our asses off and were dead tired once we got to shore. It can hit you out of nowhere.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.
