Just popped in my head while looking at the "How do you roll????" Thread. Might sound silly, but with folks with a good chunk of coin sitting on their roof tops or behind them on a trailer is maybe boat insurance or any type of insurance available? Anyone have it or look into it? I know it's paranoia, but a couple of kayaks rigged up could easily be worth north of $10k with a trailer (hobie ai's i.e.) Was just wondering. Not sure if auto insurance covers much, if any.(I've been meaning to ask my agent.)God forbid a trailer get taken out by an uninsured motorist or someone wake up in the morning and find their trailer gone. Wanted to know if there was any type of insurance and if so what the cost may be just out of curiosity. Thanks on any info or thoughts.

I would imagine it could be covered under a boat insurance plan if it were registered with the DMV (say, in the case if a Hobie AI)

Asked my agent this same question on my way to GS-9 (2015) and was told that it would be covered under your homeowner/renter policy. This was a big part of choosing a insurance carrier ... ask lots of questions.
Now that all my insurance policies are under one roof, I make one call and she can battle umongst herself over who pays me.

I would have eventually got around to asking my agent. I'll definitely still want to talk to him about coverages and limits. Thanks for the info!

If the equipment was attached to the vehicle (ie: Trailer, roof rack, etc), it would be covered under your auto insurance policy if you have liability covererage.

If it was not, than your home owners or renters insurance would should cover the loss...

I had to mtn bikes stolen while camping, Homeowners paid me $8k!  :smt003

Homeowners/renters insurance awesome. You can beat it. I pay $250 a year.

I insure 3 autos, ski  boat, motorhome, race car, race car trailer, personal house, 3 other houses. I do not ask my wife that the monthly is. I do not need to know. All well protected. Plus a million dollar liability umbrella.

There's a set limit for what insurance will cover on things like your kayak or bikes/whatever, if you want a specific item fully covered you have to name it in the policy.
