Does anyone know if the Santa Cruz harbor closure effects kayaks?  Can we still launch kayaks there during the closure?

No.  Only affects the launch ramp.  Small boat launch across the harbor by Aldo's is open.

TEMPORARY LAUNCH RAMP CLOSURE

The Santa Cruz Harbor trailer launch ramp will be temporarily closed as early as June, 13, 2016. This schedule is subject to change.

The Port District anticipates the arrival of its new dredge as early as June 13, 2016. Staging and assembly of the new dredge will take place in the launch ramp area. The launch ramp and adjoining parking areas will be closed for the duration of the build. Hand launch ramps for dinghies, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards on the west side of the harbor will be unaffected

Delivery of the dredge will involve several big rig trucks and will impact traffic along Lake Avenue, 5th Avenue and East Cliff Drive during the week of June 13th. Parking along Lake Avenue will be limited and traffic will be flagger controlled when the largest trucks are arriving and leaving. Assembling the new dredge may be noisy at times. The builder will be required to abide by City and County noise ordinances.

We invite you to come down and see the new dredge as it takes shape on the launch ramp.
DREDGE DELIVERY VISITOR BERTHING SPECIAL

As a result of the launch ramp closure, the Port District will be offering a “Dredge Delivery” visitor berthing special to all trailerable vessels. For only $150, berth your vessel on an end-tie for the duration of the launch ramp closure, which is currently expected to last 10 days. If the closure is extended, your berthing is extended too for no additional cost! Launch fee and parking are included!

Promotional pricing will begin on Friday, June 10, 2016.  Reservations are being accepted.  Vessels without a reservation will be assigned end-tie space on a first-come, first-served basis until Sunday, June 12, 2016. Please note that retrieval of your vessel (haulout) may be delayed depending on the dredge construction schedule – there will be no additional charge for extended stays due to dredge construction.

To make an end-tie reservation, please contact the harbor office at (831) 475-6161.
