Allen,

I thought Mick was talking about spinners and how heavy the drag can be set.

I was talking about the line, drag and lack of capacity of a spinner.

Mick,  I am a Shimano Guy.  I have a lot of other reels.  But, Shimano has they stuff together...better than the rest.

FYI you could in theory pack over 600 yds of spectra on one of Shimano's Thunnus spinners.  Thats a lot of line!  That would be enough for ANYTHING you would ever want to catch off a yak.

Shimano make good products, but they constantly change everything, and it makes me nuts.  Last years best, will be out of date within 18 months.

I wouldn't ditch a reel if the only lame part was the drag.  I would just send it to Alan an let him do his thing.  The improvement in my Abus was simply amazing.

I am sure he could make something very fishable out of those little Catalinas.

Spinners are good for throwing light lures and light lines.   But, the drags are not as good as the baitcaster or trolling reels.

I had a spinner with a 20 lbs. salmon mooching on the a party boat and the Capt. was bitching at me for how long it took to bring in that fish.  You don't have the drag pressure to bring in a fish.

Spinners are for guys how don't know how to cast.

But that's where Mick started this discussion.  Okuma is advertising ungodly drag for some of their spinners.

Hmm ... now we're almost talking religious beliefs.   I can't/won't argue that.

You'll see lots of bass pros using spinners now...pretty sure they can cast.  The guys on Spanish Fly and others also use big spinners, they can cast too.  They all have there place.

The Bass guys use spinners for light lures and baits.  They all use baitcasters for the throwning the heavy stuff.
