The weather is good - partly sunny, winds at 9 mph it should be a nice day.  On the coast its looks like its gonna be really bad - winds at 30 mph n probably 20' swells.

I haven't fish the Sac Port in years (it's located in West Sacramento off of Jefferson Blvd, only 1 place to launch is off of Jefferson Blvd just south of Stone blvd, its like a dirt road area, you can't mis it, theres always cars there, people fish there alot); but I usually take my kayak to the coast: FT. Ross, Salt Point, Moat Creek, Elk and Ft. Bragg; I'd always limited out with fish and abalone.  In the rivers it's different; sometimes you don't catch anything at all.  It's so much better in the ocean: the views, the fresh air; common it's the ocean and of course your guarantee to catch fish...

I use to remember fishing in the Sac Port when there were huge schools of stripers in the springs and summers and huge schools of salmon in the fall.  Man I mis those days, I wonder if the stripers and salmon still run through the port????

I might be in.  Like you, I usually launch and fish in the salt.  Berkeley flats, Richmond marina, Baker Beach, Tomales, and Bodega Bay.

Never fished Port of Sac before.  Can you be my tour guide?  I have no idea even what tackle to bring.  I'm guessing the target fish is stripers, right?

I'm planning on being out there.  Haven't fished the port in years.  Actually there were no house at all back then and Club Pheasant restaurant was standing all by itself.

Just getting my new to me Pro Angler ready and hope to be out early Sunday!

Port has stripers, bass, crappie, bluegills.  It's a smorgasbord!!!

Have fun.

Hi Kevin,

Stripers are the target... they've come in from the ocean to spawn, big and small.  Sometimes we get lucky and run into a huge school of them feeding - at that moment cast any lure you have at them and your guarantee a hook up.  Depending on how fast you are at getting the hook off you can hook up and reel in as many as a dozen or more.  It's so fun believe me.  Keep in mind that the limit is 2 stripers a day and each have to be 18" or more.

I have a hobie revo kayak and I normally bring 2 poles to the port: 1 for trolling, Yo-Zuri minnows or any lure with a small lip - with a plastic or a live worm on the bottom rear hook or use the Alabama rig with some live worms or plastic worms its up to you.  There are many ways to catch a striper.  Or you can bring some bait, like live minnows or frozen sardines.  Penny rod and Bait is down the street (916) 372-8813.

The other pole is there in case I see feeding frenzy; you'll know it when you see it (fish jumping everywhere)...

I'm not an expert by any means.  Fishing in the river takes lots and lots patience; sometimes you get some n sometimes nothing at all...

Drift fishing a live minnow works well and seems to be the go to method. You have a chance of catching a striper or large mouth (maybe catfish)?

Any reports of the fishing this past Sunday?  I am thinking of hitting up the port either this coming Friday or over the weekend to see if I can get my first, and perhaps more, striper of the the season.

Port isn't at it its prime right now. I would focus more on a river where the fish actually are. Most fish besides the residents have all left dead end sloughs and other holding places like the port to go spawn in the sac, feather, moke etc.
