Saturday 4/16- Ran a group up to Shasta for a Hobie First Cast day through Headwaters Adventure Company.  We ran through the gear/equipment, an overview of the yaks, and headed out for a day of solid spotted bass action.  Things started out a bit shaky as Brent actually managed to flip the Pro Angler 12, losing his iPhone 6 but saving everything else.  That was a first, but at 6’7” and his first time in a kayak, it proved to me that anything was possible.  Luckily it was a warm day and he laughed it off.  Kelly was just happy to be away from the kids and work.  She landed one fish, put her rod in the holder, and just cruised around the rest of the day relaxing.

But the real highlight of the day was none other than Kay Arbuckle, grandma of the Headwaters Kayak family.  She told me it had been 15 years since she had fished, but I think she was sand-bagging it…she’s a certified fish slayer and outfished everybody!  75 years young, and ripping lips like a pro!

The fishing is still red-hot on Shasta, lots of spots and big crappie (although we didn't get into the crappie this day) this year.  The jet skis and wakeboarders are already out, so its about time to move onto other waters until the fall.  :smt001

Tight lines,
