A buddy wants to go fish from shore and I'd love to get out on the yak. Thoughts on Manresa or Sunset to make us both happy?

Or where would you go?

Would recommend capitola. You wont be dealing with as much boat traffic. Ask the guys at the pier store and they will direct you were to go for cod. Plenty of kelp beds in the area Some local reefs they can clue you in on. I wouldnt do Manresa. That's just me though. Not much there. If your gonna be at Manresa , you are better off surf fishing for stripers or perch.

I launched out of the harbor today. Boat traffic wasn't to bad. But the swell coming back in was. I heard it going to get a little bigger. :smt009

Manresa is just crazy to fish anyways on a yak unless you are strictly fishing for striper perch Seabass or halibut.. even then it's not worth it. If you are going to beach launch as stated before, capitola is ok, parking sucks, new Brighton is great yet a little bit of a paddle and costs $10 if you don't have a park pass, the harbor is even better of an option but $12 and a paddle as well..

All will have swell tomorrow but manresa would be only if you wanted to practice large surf water entries.. I'd stick to somewhere protected with reefs for more production :) just my 2 cents... Good luck!! If you need some tips on where to go, feel free to pm me!

New Brighton is great, but the gate doesn't open until later, which is a bummer if you want to get an early start. Capitola Wharf is usually good.

Good advice not getting out on the yak today.

Stayed on the beach and had a slow morning at Rio Del Mar but watched a guy pull in a nice striper, probably 24 inches, on a small camo gulp sand worm. I moved to Sunset. Caught about 10 undersized stripers then landed a definite keeper on a Kastmaster a few minutes before I had to leave.

I went to school on a fly fisherman that was nailing them all day except for low tide. Most bites were probably 30 feet from shore, right next to big rips.

Others had staked out their dropper loop with sand flees and I saw a few catches, but all small. I had zero luck walking the beach, until I found the nice rips. Classic 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water...
