Long time lurker but usually don't have much to contribute because I'm fairly new to kayak fishing, however this is my 4th year kayak crabbing!  I hope to join some of you once the rock and ling season opens up.

Launch out of Muir at 630am.  Parked outside and carted my heavy Pelican 12t to the beach.  Dropped 3 pots by 730am with 30-45 min soak times.  In my experience, I don't soak too long because either the crabs are concentrated in an area or not.  I like to move my traps around dependin on the tide, current, and bottom structure.

Limited out by 930am and it was only getting better as the tide was bottoming out.  Caught the largest Dungie in my life at 6 7/8".

1 - 6 7/8"
2 - 6 3/4"
2 - 6 1/2"
4 - 6"
1 - 5 3/4"
All male and full.

Not many pictures, I'm sorry.  I always forget when in the moment.  Too busy enjoying the catch.

- Kevin

I like to use salmon carcass and usually throw a mesh bag with squid.

DDtAM is right.  I was there on an outgoing tide.  My traps were between 20-25 feet.

I've aways wanted to try Muir Beach. How were the currents, did you weight your pods?

I've never needed to weight pots at muir. Dropped them there about 10 times in the past 2 yrs.

I didn't need weight because that morning, there was less than 0.5 ft of tidal change in the 2.5 hours I was there.

Nice crabs!
You think surf casting a snare would catch any crab over there at Muir?

Yes you can catch dungies from shore. Head to the right side of  the beach. Scale the rocks and fish where the naked people hang out. I've snared lots of crab down there.
