We went out of Coyote Point last weekend, out to the main channel. Only got some small sharks this time, we were hoping for a striper or Hali, but nothin doin'. We were using anchovies and squid, anything better?

Want to give the rock wall a try, but being a peninsula boy, I don't know anything about fishing there. Where should I put-in? Fish outside or inside? Best kind of tide to go on?

Any help you could pass along would be greatly appreciated!

What's up, Yakcolumbo?

The best tides for halibut fishing in the bay are SMALL ones. You want the small tides swings because they don't muck up the water.

As for bait, you can either troll/drift an anchovy on a 3-way rig, cast or troll a swimbait, or try "bounce balling" (google it if you aren't familiar). Live bait works great, too. You can probably catch some smelt using a Sabiki rig, or you can buy live shiner perch at bait shops.

The area near the flag pole produces halibut year after year, but they hang out all over. Just keep moving around trying different spots. Right up against the rock wall can be good, too.

Launch ramp near the rock wall is located behind Encinal High school, should be easy enough to find on google earth. My friend picked one up trolling along the Rockwall (heading north towards the "flagpole") hugging the edge where the depth goes from 8-12' down to 30 plus FOW pretty rapidly. We trolled three way rigs and "bounced the bottom"...that's how my buddy hooked up. I've also tried live jack smelt with no love...good luck!

Just troll the wall. There is a ledge at the flag pole that you should work. They tend to be there during the tide change.
Look for bait and hover around them. I would also work the end of the wall where it turns into and "L"
The current causes a lot of bait to hang out around there.  Good luck and post a report.

Work the north side of the first opening, past the end of the wall drops off and comes back up pretty quick, and the fish always chill there and wait.
